Never ask a kid again what engineers do! For in the land of high entrepreneurial zeal, we have engineers selling sweets. Yes the humble, tasty Indian mithai. MithaiMate.com is an online store selling sweets in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, sourced from some of the finest sweet shops in the respective cities. It is co-founded by four engineers – Shashank Agarwal, Akhilesh Bali, Ashutosh Dixit and Rachit Mehra.
A search on Google would reveal quiet a few websites selling sweets and dry fruits within India. Most of them selling stuff to any corner of the country. So, what’s different you ask? And how will a site selling sweets to just three cities survive?! Why is StartupNews.in featuring Mithaimate.com and not others? All the answers are quiet simple. The idea behind MithaiMate as an enterprise was to develop an online portal, which would enable people to send across sweets (mithai) as gifts to their loved ones. Sharing of gifts during celebrations is a common aspect within most cultures around the world, & in India gifts in the form of mithai are held in high regard.
A brain child of Akhilesh Bali and Shashank agarwal, later joind by Ashutosh Dixit and Rachit Mehra, the team realised that this could be a solution for NRIs and those who are unable to be with their loved ones to celebrate an occasion. Anybody constrained by time or distance can now send guaranteed fresh sweets to anyone in the cities where MithaiMate is present.
As of now, MithaiMate operates in three cities across India namely, New Delhi, Mumbai & Bangalore. MithaiMate has tied up with leading brands in these cities for sourcing sweets of high quality. The brands with which MithaiMate has tied up are all renowned & well respected brands occupying substantial market shares in their respective cities.
The brands, which have given their consent towards being associated with MithaiMate are:
- Nathu Sweets (Delhi)
- Punjabi Ghasitaram Halwai (Mumbai)
- Anand Sweets (Bangalore)
According to Ashutosh, MithaiMate strives to ensure that the mithai reaches the customer on time, so that the customer can appreciate the fine quality & taste of the mithai. A dedicated staff is in place in order to take care of the delivery requirements in each of the three cities. MithaiMate plans to roll out similar operations in other cities across India as well. They are already in talks with vendors in Chandigarh, Pune, Nagpur, Chennai, and Kolkata.
The founders have been very entrepreneurial from college times and have always treated their customers as kings. Ashutosh did not speak much about the founders stressing that what mattered in their business was the branding of MithaiMate as a personalised service provider of the highest quality of sweets and speed of delivery for their clients.
StartupNews.in predicts an excellent future and tremendous opportunities for MithaiMate if it takes a franchise route. It can also do well if marketed to corporate clients and other institutions across the globe.

What a dated concept. Is there anything original about this? Yawn.
Well what a concept guys , i think this is the first dedicated sweet store .
We can find chocolates, flowers , gifts but sweets and that to delivering on the very same day ,
nothing was there of this sort and on such surprising price , i must say i am impressed
You can expect an order from my side on this Mother s day ; )
Pretty nice concept ..i dnt think it is dated as some1 stated above …mithai cnt be couriered like other stores ..for this specific reason i had not ordered from the other stores till now ..will definately try this one …

Vinod : We do agree there are other online stores selling everything but we choose to sell only mithai and we have staff in each of the cities we deliver because other people “courier” mithai . Now tell me , would you like 3 days old couriered mithai ?

So, can I do fresh rasmalais? or hot jalebi from Khan Market?

As of now … no ..but we may look into this in future …
the simple reason is that rasmalai has a short shelf life …say 2-3 hours ..and its always not possible to deliver within that short span of time … but if the vendor’s store and the delivery address is nearby ..then we do take such orders on special request ….

hats off to the spirit of these guys. Every one of us have dreams. Very few have gone ahead and succeeded. This is really a very good concept. I think we have a lot to learn from them. The best part is their end product is economically viable & quality is assured. I just can’t resist to pick up my phone & place an order.

I would like to give feedback of your service here. Your concept is very good and I would like that it would grow as I am not able to figure out any such online service available in India.It need lots of improvement.
But your service has lots of lapses. I ordered 300rs choclate to be delivered to my sister(which she like most) at occasion of rakshabandan. It delivered on time. But it was delivered of only Rs 125. My sister yelling at me for giving her cheap packet of chocs . I take it easy as it could be a mistake. So I called your guys for their mistake. They responded well and told me remaining amount of gift would be delivered. Still my sis did not get any gift after 10 days. I called your guys thrice already for it. I told him every time that I want status of you next gift. I did not get any status of my mail. I mailed also to mithaimate for asking status. No reply came back. Even i submitted the form available on your website.From there also I dud not get reply back.
I tried your service for the first time. This was the first time response I get. I am still waiting for my gift and money back.
My suggestion is that you make your tracking system of gift better. Please send response back to the person on time.
